It’s official folks, October is here! Also known as spooky season, stout drinking season, and Breast Cancer Awareness month. An annual, monthly campaign to raise awareness about the impacts of breast cancer and generate support, which one of our longtime brewery partners is honouring with their latest and greatest! Alberta’s Sea Change has crafted a deliciously unique fruited sour in collaboration with the St. Albert Fire Fighters Union in support of the Breast Cancer Research.

Ian Macintosh, the founder of Sea Change was inspired by his mother’s battle with Breast Cancer. She was diagnosed in 1993 and passed a few years later, after a long and hard battle. Although the brewery supports many great initiatives, this is the very first Ian’s been personally affected by. So, the cause is understandably close to his heart and one of the reasons he seized the opportunity to work with the St. Albert Fire Fighters Union in raising money and awareness for Breast Cancer Research. The Alberta brewery ended up crafting a deliciously unique fruited sour, coined “The Pink Anchor”, with $1 from every 4-pack going directly to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation to help advance research, education, the diagnosis, and treatment of breast cancer.

Tasting Notes

The Pink Anchor is a fruited sour with lactose, reminiscent of a Strawberry Coconut Daquiri. It’s tart, with bold strawberry, and fresh coconut notes throughout. You can expect a somewhat sweet finish for this medium-bodied brew with tiny hints of malt and hop character to balance the beer and bring it all together.

Label Design

Sea Change has a distinct art style, and it’s easy to associate their products simply by spotting one of the beautiful labels they trust us to produce. For this release, they wanted to do something on-brand while keeping it familiar. They were inspired by the quotes “Hope is the Anchor of our Soul”, “Hope is my Anchor”, and “Anchor in Hope”. The brewery felt these quotes embodied the essence of what the St Albert Fire Fighters Union sought to do by increasing the awareness and funds raised to help further the research and treatment of breast cancer.

Sea Change Brewing-115

The artwork sprung from this concept and was kept in theme with their usual tattoo aesthetic while using a pink colour to match the beer. The brewery entrusted us to produce this stellar label with our digital label printing capabilities. Check out the final eye-catching product above!
