It's here the 2022 Pantone Colour of the Year! In the design world, that's like saying -it's Christmas time! Last year, Pantone opted to name two colours as its colour of the year – choosing Pantone 17-5104 Ultimate Gray and 13-0647 Illuminating as the first "pairing" in the initiative's history. This year in another first, they've created a colour to command the title:PANTONE 17-3938 Very Peri
Why do we care? Because the Pantone colour of the year influences design in every quarter! From interiors to graphic design, fashion, packaging and more. This 22-year old initiative uses colour influences in everything from sports and social media to events, lifestyle, and even popular travel destinations. It's about embracing colour and using it to express ourselves.
"The Pantone Color of the Year reflects what is taking place in our global culture, expressing what people are looking for that colour can hope to answer." - Laurie Pressman, vice president of the Pantone Color Institute.

Colour Theory
Blue is the colour of the sea and sky. It's often associated with calmness, serenity, depth and stability. Believed to be beneficial to the human body and mind, slowing the metabolism and creating a sense of calm. Something we could all use after a year like this one!
On the other end, red is the colour of fire and blood. It is associated with energy, strength, power, and danger. It pulls in the power of passion, desire, and love to the same end.
"Encompassing the qualities of the blues, yet at the same time possessing a violet-red undertone, PANTONE 17-3938 Very Peri displays a spritely, joyous attitude and dynamic presence that encourages courageous creativity and imaginative expression."
So why create the Very Peri Pantone?
We're living through transformative times, and that shift is being recognized. It's a way of bringing the growing digital sphere (i.e., gaming and that crazy new Meta-verse) into the physical; and vice-versa.
"Displaying a carefree confidence and a daring curiosity that animates our creative spirit, inquisitive and intriguing PANTONE 17-3938 Very Peri helps us to embrace this altered landscape of possibilities, opening us up to a new vision as we rewrite our lives."

Bringing PANTONE 17-3938 Very Peri to Labels
The Pantone Color of the Year comes from Pantone's Fashion Home + Interior colour system based on textile and product design. These colours are not printed CMYK, ink on paper.
However, we dug deep and found the two best two matching Pantone Graphics (ink) colours and what we believe are their closest CMYK values!
- Pantone 2366 C - CMYK: 67, 58, 0, 0
- Pantone 2116 C - CMYK: 71, 61, 0, 0
These are not direct equivalents - and we get into the differences between Pantones, RGB, and CMYK in this blog - however, they are the best matching colours. They can be a good starting point for developing your print files.
The next step for achieving the Very Peri pop is to colour match in our facility. We'll use these CMYK values and match them to our in-house printed samples to ensure that your colour codes are locked and loaded. Once we've done that, you're ready to rock!
